New York Fashion Week – Last day. At Calvin Klein. CRAZY, VERY CRAZY.
This picture shows a crazy ambiance isn’t it ! And it’s just the first pictures of this slideshow and so many others to come. I remember when I started street style photography almost 6 years ago, we were just few photographers to embrace street style photography. The Sartorialist, Face Hunter, me as Style and the City and some japanese magazines. It was heaven for me. Women could walk peacefully with their friends without behind harassed by photographers, and forced to stop and pose for them, then to give all the brands or their outfit. For me it meant, more natural moments, more laughs, smiles, beautiful face expressions and more time to take a picture. Now that fashion editors and fashion shows guests are the new stars of fashion week, the real and greater show is outside the runways. As the huge amount of photographers and greed behaviours turned street style photography into a mad circus, I had to change my approach of photography. I added a “War photography” style in my photographs. Why ? Because life is more beautiful for me than doing fashion or street style photography. Trying to reveal the natural beauty of life, of ephemerical moments is what makes my humanist photographer’s heart beat. Because when the moment is gone, it is gone for ever. And because you can loose it, it forces you to get better every day.
I don’t take pictures to be published but to leave a legacy to my futur children. I want them to learn that your life is the one you decide to have. I want them to understand that therer is greater challenges and rewards than having your photographs doing the cover of VOGUE. “You’ll live once my children. Live wise !”. Money and greed are the poison of our society and our humanity. Money is just a commodity. If a slave named Spartacus was able to led a massive revolt against the Roman Empire, it means that you can achieve your dreams if you fight for your cause. But you need to have a noble cause. And money and fame are not among them.
To make you understand my point, I exceptionally put in this slideshows many pictures that were screwed by photographers’ harassing behaviours and flashs. I can blame them, tell them to stop their behaviours, they won’t. I had to adapt my work at every situation. That what creativity is about. And that what greed photographer will never have and that what make you see the beauty of life like their eyes will never be able to witness.
Miroslava Duma, Elin Kling, Tina Leung and others : thank you very much once again. Forgive me is they are not as great as usual. I put them to show how hard street style photography became for the humanist photographer I try to be. Thank you for your understanding.
