Dear friends. 2 years ! I’ve been reluctant 2 years before using Instagram. Friends were constantly telling me about how convenient Instagram was. I started to use it 7 weeks ago and I have to admit that yes, it’s quite convenient in a certain level. And it allows you to reach an audience that might not have been aware of you and your work. So here’s Style and the City on Instagram. At a rythme of 3/4 pictures/stories a day, you’ll already find 174 posts. You are now 100 new followers a day. I have to thank you very much for your fidelity.
Therefore I decided to post once a week a compilation of my Instagram stories and pictures. Let’s start with this first bundle and my dear friends…
1- “Super Andrew”
The ever funny Andrew Bevan and her adorable friend Kate Nash. Private message to Andrew : “I hate you ! What is your secret to not only always be surrounded by gorgeous girls friends but also how do you make them laugh everytime ? Like Lady Gaga, are you born this way ? ” LOL. Ps : what a great coincidence to meet you at the airport the evening I was leaving New York for Paris. Do you think it means something ? Lol bis. (Because I like Andrew very much, I put all the pictures of our encounter at Lincoln center. You would be able to check is power)
2- Like mother, like daughter.
Paris, Tuileries – I was doing a private photo shoot that morning on a street close to Jardins des Tuileries. But while I was shooting my model, I noticed in the background of my fmodel a mother with her little stylish daughter on bicycle, crossing the street. The scene was too lovely as the mother was caring for her daughter. I had to stop my shooting right now and run after the mother and daughter before they totally disappear. I apologyzed to my model, explained her that I needed to leave right away to take in picture a mother and daughter. I promised her to be back in 5 min. I ran as fast as I could. Fortunately, the duo was entering Jardins des Tuileries. Cool, not only I could catch them but I also had space and time to set my photo shoot and take great pictures. “Hi madame. I am a street style photographer who tries to capture people’s natural beauty. I saw you from far away and found you both so touching that I had to stop my current photo shoot to capture your sweet mother to little daughter relationship. Can I take some pictures of you? Just keep on doing what you were doing. I will not disturb you.” At that moment I realized how cut the little girl was and I started to pray that the mother will agree. In France it’s very delicate to take in picture children. Thank God she agreed. I made them feel comfortable, especially the little stylish princess and started to shoot from 5m distance. Their mutual tenderness was so sweet to witness and capture. I spent at least 15 min with them. I got back to find my previous model to apologize. Gone! It’s life but I will do it again !
3- Light like a feather : love on Mercer street.
New York, Mercer St. – It was a beautiful day like only the month of may can offer. Streets were crowded with friends on shopping mission, parents with babies in stroler, artists selling their paintings, flea market stands and… lovers. 20m ahead, behind a group of friends laughing, I could see a couple of teenagers, a black handsome guy and a pretty asian girl friend He was holding her hand : they were lovers, no doubt about it. She saw me first taking them in picture as they were walking towards me. She froze then bursted into laughers. They stopped to listen to my challenge. I told the guy that he has 10 sec. no more to show her how much he loves her. I took position . “Are you ready my friend? 1…2…3!”. Clic clac! He did the unexpected and it was behind what I had ever hoped for. LOVE HAS NO COLOR. Fall in love my friends and see you on the streets of New York.
4- “I will always take care of you.”
New York, Bleecker st. – They didn’t see me capturing their love for a while. Was I hidden ? Not at all. They were simply deeply in love. Understanding that moment of pure beauty, I decided to not break their feeling. Sometime, Life doesn’t need me to brighten or spiced it up. LOVE has that power to shut my big mouth down . The lovers finally saw me and… and I advise you to enjoy all their pictures and story in the musical slideshow “Love is in the air“ that you loved so much. Kirill and Elizabeth : thank you so much once again..
5- My first model photo shoot.
Paris fashion week, subway, rond point des Champs Elysées – sept. 2007 – It was my first fashion week ever. I just started my blog Style and the City few days ago. The only models I was familiar with were the models on magazines or bilboards. I knew of course that most of the time, models are chosen because of their pretty faces. But what I couldn’t expected was that they not only were so young but also so shy. What a paradox. Of course it was before street style photography became mainstream and before facebook and Instagram turn almost everybody into selfies. Their shyness was making them so gorgeous to me. I was leaving the subway and they were entering into it. I stepped back of course. I was at the right place at the right moment. If you know them, tell to these angels how cool and gorgeous they are and how much I thank them.
6- Shiona Turini has always a joke for you.
New York Fashion week – Real life and real moments will always be more compeling than just clothes. That’s why Shiona Turini’s smiles and bursts of laugher are always a sun in my day. @shionat thank you very much for the freshness and fun you always bring with you and offer to people. See you soon .
7- Beautiful pregnancy at Ralp Lauren.
New York Fashion Week, at Ralph Lauren – Street style photographers are glued at the entrance of the show to not miss a single picture of the arriving stylish fashion editors. As usual I flee them, trying to capture with my camera something different that would matter more to my heart than “It bags” and “Must have”. As I look around, I see a beautiful stylish woman coming in my direction. The closer she comes, the more I realize how pregnant she is. How amazing it was to witness such natural beauty, great style and a brightening smile. As she is at voice reach, I tell her how gorgeous she is and how french women will love her. She smiles to me and once again I feel right about choosing the path of humanist street style photography. There is so many great people, so much natural beauty and positive energy in New York that I can see my life elsewhere than in the big apple.
8- Best friends.
Paris Fashion Week – Every time a fashion show is finished, street style photographers gather at the exit to stop models and make them pose again for the magazines and websites that hired them. Personaly I hate that. Models want to leave and have a rest and I respect that. The only pictures I take are real situations that don’t disturb their routine or funny pictures. That’s why, when I saw a family passing by with their little daughters I closely paid attention to them. I noticed how close friends and accomplice they were. They were teasing each other, laughing all the way, making them even more adorable. I asked the mothers if their girls were the models of the show. The little friends blushed and smiled shyly. “Would you like to pose for me because you are more beautiful than the models on runway ? I’m gonna take in picture your friendship. Would you?”. The mothers were extatic and the 2 little friends so proud. 1…2…3! CLIC! In the box. I showed to the little girls their pictures : they were so happy and excited to have been taken in picture by a “professional fashion photographer”. I wish them all the happiness they deserve and to keep their friendship for ever.
9- The runing girl.
New York, Bowery – My first visit to the Big Apple. Every french boy and girl have read countless stories about how cool is Manhattan, how friendly people are over there. But it’s one thing to imagine it, it’s another thing to live it. It’s february. In 1h it’s gonna be dark. It’s already getting colder. I am walking along Bowery : no stylish people to take in picture. Let’s keep walking in the direction of Soho. 30m ahead, a girl is doing her jogging, music in the ears. She is looking at the opposite sidewalk. She hasn’t noticed yet that I am already taking pictures of her working out. What will be her reaction when she sees me? Will she be scared ? Will she hide her face ? Will she yeald at me, threaten me, insult me ? I couldn’t know. I took the risk because I trust my instinct and because I want to reveal and capture the true nature of a person by surprising her. She finally looks in my direction, sees me, makes a funny surprised face. She starts to laugh and while she keeps runing, makes me a even funnier face, then winks at me. She overtakes me, still runing, still laughing. She could have been upset but she decided to offer me the best of what a human being can offer to another human being : generosity, kindness, trust. She made me fall in love even more with New York. If you know her, tell her to contact me. I want to thank her again. Note : you can see all her story and picture in this musical slideshow.
10- Best friends.
Paris Fashion Week, 07.07.2010, after Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show – 3 years and half ago… I remember that period like a sweet dream. We were few street style photographers ; therefore guests and stylish women could walk and talk peacefully with their friends without being harassed by photographers. The adorable Miroslava Duma and Vika Gazinskaya could come and go relaxly. @miraduma was a gorgeous young pregnant woman, more and more beautiful fashion week after fashion week. @vikagazinskaya was brightening everybody with her blue lagoon eyes. That day, photographers left sooner than usual. I waited until Mira and Vika were free and relax to take a sweet picture of friendship. I asked Vika to put her arm around Mira’s shoulder, to “care” about her, to “protect” her as she always do. Thank you very much for these sweet souvenirs from a period that doesn’t exist anymore. Have a great day my dear friends.
And for those who want to see the pictures in a slideshow mode, here it is! Enjoy and share !
