I’ve never lost my concentration ever since I started Style and the City, 30 months ago. I interviewed so many french TV stars when I was TV video reporter and even stood up in front of large audiences in comedy clubs that I though I would never been destabilized by anybody I would take in picture. My friends, guess what ? That period ended that thursday 18th, 3.42 pm exactly (NY time). Because of Anna Wintour ! Her beautiful endless look she gave me at the exit of Calvin Klein fashion show. I should have been more careful about the signs my friend God placed in my path, like the gorgeous smile of one of the most natural stylish born woman in the wolrd, Miroslava Duma. Could you resist to a sweet pink candy walking towards you ? I can’t.
875 + pictures I took that day. Pictures of stylish people, pictures of sweet natural moments, pictures of generous women and even very sexy. Do they know they are such sexy ? Ok ! So, here we are that thurdsay morning at Ralph Lauren, Hudson street. Its was cold, and as usual all the photographers wanted to take a picture of the famous stylish as ever Anna Dello Russo, Vogue Nippon.
What I really don’t understand is why magazines want that kinds of pictures where the outfit is more important than human being that wear them ??
For me a great pictures is not made by a fur coat, a bag, or boots, rather by a great personality,
and the search of emotion.
Emotion !! That is a key word in photography. At least the photography I love, the humanist one.
Emotion : you discover it or you create it.
You can create it for exemple by creating a nice sincere human connection with your unexpected model,
And when I say unexpected model, I mean a person you don’t know, a person with who you didn’t set an appointment. That’s is the beauty of real life, that the beauty of trying to capture tr natural beauty of anybody, that is the beauty of real street style. But as you know it, the real street style si dead.
I will show you later all the pictures of this morning : you’ll love them. Especially Charlotte, a beautiful french model I met and with who I already became friend. Hourra for the french models !

Ah I forgot; the pics you took were outside Chalayan and Chanel if I am not mistaking. You don’t need to post them, but if you find them I would be happy to see them maybe emailed? I love your way to photograph. I showed your blog for one of my friends who is a photographer and he said that your technique is great and more advanced than other street style bloggers. I am sure he is right.

You can’t imagine what i saw during the new york fashion week !!! The sartoirlaits and Garance Doré trying to do exactly the same kind of pictures than me, and sometimes, in the exact same place. It’s so ridiculous as they despise me.

Ha! That’s must feel so annoying!? And why do they despise you? I think it’s because they see you as a competitor, you are getting bigger and bigger and that might frighten them don’t you think? Even though it must feel hard, try to take it as a compliment. Your were first with that kind of shooting and you have dedicated viewers who knows that!
Do you ever talk to Sartorialist or Ms Doré? Maybe they would show respect for your work if they knew you better?
I am eager to see what you have to show next. By the way, it was Giambattista Valli also, we met outside that show for a moment too. I hope to see you this time again and then I will come and say hello.

C’est la première fois que je post sur ton blog.
Je le regarde de temps en temps car je suis amateur de belles photos.
Je t’entendais souvent pester contre la contrefaçon des magazines français (sans avoir jamais lu la presse féminine en question).
Je me disais:
« ohhh, il exagère le Khamel »….jusqu’a ce que je tombe sur l’un des magazines, espèce de catalogue « LA REDOUTE de luxe » ^^.
Arrrfff, c’était vraiment tout pareil (sans le pathos ^^) sauf que beaucoup de photos était prises avec des mannequins où elles faisaient semblant d’être « Style & Street »…
Tactiques d’enfumage classique (avec en dessous les adresses où s’approvisionner en GUCCI et autre bottines italiennes.
PITOYABLE.
J’adore ton travail…
Bien qu’à chaque fois j’essaye de pinailler en me disant:
« à merde la luminosité aurait pût être mieux. Merde s’il avait fait ci…^^ »
Et après je réalise que ce que j’ai en tête comme modèles, ce sont les photos pensées, posées, réalisées avec 25 assistants maquilleurs, éclairagistes, souffres-douleurs au café qui apprennent du maître en regardant.
Toi tu es dans le moment, l’instantanéité, l’imprévu.
Tu arrives à saisir une atmosphère , un « mood », et à faire sourire les plus rétives et plus posh de nos jungles urbaines, et cela pendant les 5 petites secondes où elles passent devant toi ou traversent la rue.
Tu as un don pour détendre tes modèles, « victimes volontaires », et leur faire donner le meilleur d’elle même (tu ne nous montres pas les vents aussi)
Jeunes, vielles, en couple, entre copines, poseuses, timides…
Tout le monde craque. Même les « flicquettes » de New York (elles sont trop belles. J’adore cette photo la) qui pour avoir eu affaire avec, ne sont pas commode en général ^^.
Continue ton travail, tu es génial.
P.S: la France est un pays engoncé, de réseaux et de cooptation.
Et malheureusement, souvent ceux qui réussisent sans, rentrent tout de suite dans le rang pour défendre leurs petits territoire et ne pas paraître pour « l’ancien plouc qui restait à la porte des happy few events ».
Je ne sais pas ce que cela va donner pour toi l’avenir mais dis toi bien que dans beaucoup de pays, la France possède une aura incroyable dans la mode.
Alors si les journaux français ne te veulent pas comme tu es…
Je suis sûr et certain que la presse coréene, japonaise, brésiienne, vénézuela, et shangaiyaise, russe et chinoise serait ravies d’avoir des images du « Paris fashion street »
Tu as vu comment même si on a une mauvaise image à l’étranger, on garde au notre capital de « fashion », stylé, de bon goût dans la dans la façon de s’habiller.
Et la tu ne leur vendra pas la parisienne selon ELLE qui veut vendre le nouveau sac VUITON de son actionnaire.
Mais le « Paris de tous les jours magnifié par ton objectif » , des vrais parisien qui ont du goût.
Je suis certain qu’il doit exister un créneau pour cela à l’étranger. Et qu’il serait ravis de travailler avec toi.
Tu sais quoi faire décroche ta box et appelle partout c’est inclus dans le forfait :-p
Qui ne tente rien…toi même tu sais cela mieux que moi.

merci pour ce long email, merci de l’avoir basé sur des faits précis et réel.
J’ai connu la presse féminine de l’intérieur et sais de quoi je parle.
de plus, je ne suis pas une de ces blogeuses qui court après une citation ou un article dans un magazine féminin.
Elles n’ont pas compris qu’elles avaient le pouvoir de créer quelque chose de différent, de novateur, de risqué !
Au lieu de cela, elles se sont fondu dans le moule bien pensant de la presse féminine.
Je leur donne RDV dans 2 ans, car elles auront disparues.
La presse féminine s’en foutent des blogs féminins : elle fait semblant de leur donner de l’importance pour mieux les amadouer.
Mais bon, elles s’en rendront compte plus tard. Quand il sera trop tard.
