As I was checking my pictures for a coming article, I stumbled upon these pictures of Taylor Tomasi Hill (Teen Vogue), who I consider as one of the most beautiful faces of the fashion weeks. Not to mention her always gorgeous style.
When a woman has an as natural beautiful face as Taylor Tomasi, photography must be used for to reveal something else than her beauty or style. Taylor already knows how she dressed up this morning; so no need to remind her that by taking in picture her clothes in a stupid classic street style way. What photography must be used for is to reveal the personality of the woman, her kindness, her generosity. By surprising her, you can ever show more than that.
I perfectly remember that day. It was after Céline fashion show. Taylor was waiting for a car. A street style photographer, fan of Style and the City style obviously, hid himself in order to take a picture of Taylor when she turn back. By his position and the way he was holding his camera, I could guess that he had all the body of Taylor in his frame. And that was not the picture that could fit that situation according to me. When you want to show something specific, you must focuse on that only thing and take off from the frame all the other elements that bring no value to the picture. Because for me, at that moment, the true value of that pictures would be the natural reaction of Taylor Tomasi when she see me.
Not her bag, high heels or whatever. And according to her sweet smile, I think I was right.
That’s what « Humanist street style » is about.
That’s what Style and the City stands for.
