Milan Fashion week, sept. 26, 2011 – Last day.
The place is crowded. People from fashion, street style photographers, paparazzi and some models coming out from the show, trying to to flee photographers and leave the location as quickly as possible. And I understand them easily. As I hate what the increasing amount of street style photographers turned street style photography into, early one, I decided to embrace “humanist photography” rather than greed street style photography. One aspect of my approach is to find what makes women and people gracious. After years of practicing what I call “humanist street style photography”, I discovered many things about what makes people gracious. Body language, human interactions, and what I tell to people. People I take in picture don’t know why I do this and tell that. If only they could know that my goal is to bring out the grace they have in order to reveal it to the worl.
Daphne Groenveld was taken in pictures by dozens of photographers. They asked her to pose, like in a fashion catalogue. The kind of pictures I would never propose to a woman. That is the lowest kind of photography ever ! Top model Daphne Groneveld is not only a particular beautiful face, she is also a very kind and generous girl. I saw her many times interacting with people and photographers : she is truely and angel. And when you meet that kind of person, you must respect her. And its starts by offering her a nice memory, not stupid greed style style pictures only taken in the goal to be sold to magazines and websites without any artistic consideration. I will never bargain my artistic integrity for a quick buck. I see my life as a life full of experimentations, of learning. Daphne Groeneveld is a top model who has been taken in pictures thousands times, by the most famous fashion photographers in the most famous fashion magazines. So what ! LOL. That day, I decided to show her that no famous fashion photographers, no famous fashion magazines could match the love I have for women and natural pictures, in real conditions After the dozens of street style photographers took her in pictures, I kindly asked Daphne if I could take a different kind of picture, like and angle coming of from the cathedral. She agreed. I gave her some instructions, move her into a different location with a better background.
“Ok Daphné ! You can keep on walking and leave. Just walk in front of me and overtake me. Just that, act naturally, I’m gonna try to capture your natural grace.” She laughs and start to walk towards me. Behind me I can hear the greed photographers already “stealing” my work, instead of finding a way to create their own kind of picture. Sad.
Someday I’m gonna die. That day, I want to smile because I would have used my life as wisely as possible. I will leave this world richer than ever, because my fortunte will lie on what life taught me and what I taught to my children to make this world a better place. That’s all what matters to me, and no famous fashion magazine can offer that to me better than Style and the City.
Daphne Groeneveld, thank you very much for your kindness and complicity. See you soon. Have a great day my friends ! See you tomorrow.
