I’ve been in New York for 2 months and my departure to Paris was 3 weeks away. I was as sad by the idea of leaving New York to Paris as happy to be able to still enjoy the city that never sleeps. +50 000 pictures have been taken since I arrived in the city. It’s a lot but as you can see it right now, opportrunities of great encounters and beautiful pictures were daily. Even on the raining days, New York and its new yorkers were beautiful to take in picture. You will see that in the coming days. But right now I would like to help aspiring photographers to understand what makes humanist photography different from street style and fashion photography.
I was walking on the street, Prince street, Soho, breathing the neighborhood. And then I saw this beautiful girl on bicycle. From a street style photography, it was an easy picture to take for me. And as you know me, I hate easyness. Because, if it’s easy, everybody can do it and if everybody can do it, I would be just like them, another “whatever” guy. No Thank’s. I have enough copycats, no need to make their work even easier, LOL.
All my life I always tried to create my own opportunities. Why ? Because I don’t see jobs of a mean to earn money but as a mean to rise myself as a human being first. What does it means ? It means whatever I do, I must find a way to become a better human being by making this world better. As a consequence, I work hard to find a way to make my work different, unique, oustanding. That’s what I want you to do with your life. Why ? Because when you do what you want, what you love, when you don’t bargain yourself, when you don’t settle, you reach a level of happiness that will equal your achievements. Your achievements will not be mesured by the amount of money you earn, but by your greatness. And because you worked hard to be more creative than any others, no matter how famous or well connected they already are, you’ll find a way to monetize your talent. And you’ll feel even more happier. Copycats will fight for the spotlight because of their short term vision of their own life. Smile and keep working harder, stay creative. They have no idea how learning and being more creative than them makes you happy.
Yes, she is beautiful, yes she has a nice style, yes, you must find a way to go beyond what is obvious. To do so, everytime I meet a personn that I “feel” cool, I ask myself how I can reveal her coolness throught my pictures, how I can make her likable, how can I show to my readers that their coolness is what makes them beautiful. I love people because I want to live in a world of generosity, trust and creativity, innovation. Because I’ve been a stand up comedian, because I’ve been a TV funny writers, director, because I had a lot a brothers and sisters to take care about, because of racism in french coporations, I have a lot of love to offer to people I meet on the street. And when you love people, words flow easily from your mouth. LOVE. Love is the key of the most beautiful photographs. Forget about publication and focus on that moment, that opportunity to reveal an unknown person’s coolitude, generosity, soul. Don’t look for the quick buck by taking selfish boring street style photography. See live and people through LOVE and your photographs will never be the same. Have a great day and don’t forget to make you life amazing.
