Dear readers, or rather dear friends, as I consider you more like part of my Style and the City family. A family whose members understand the importance of personal achievements, of working hard and take risks to living their dreams instead of dreaming their lives. It took me more than a week to post a new Dose of Happiness because first, I am very busy working on launching my start up in New York and secondly, because I need to let my mind find a way to put words on what my heart has to say to you. And sometimes, it takes more time than usual. Diving into my archives, I stumbled upon this beautiful pictures of the even more gorgeous and kind Vogue Turkey fashion editor, Konca Aykan. When I saw her coming fast from the other side of the high way, I asked myself if her pace would mean something to mean. Because as you know, I always try to see signs in my life, like hidden messages sent by God, if exist. As street style photographers was taking pictures of her style, I understood what to do, what to share with you. I could see the story, the movie script we were writing live together. Now, I finally found time to tell you why I chose to put this pictures on the home page. Let me share with you a true story.
10 years ago, I decided to go on a summer camp to practice canoe kayak. I was a little be scared to tell you the truth because I am not a good swimmer. I am a very good runner but not a good swimmer. That’s why, when I go to beach on holiday, I never swim beyond where my feet can feel the ground. And because I am small, I finish to found myself among kids. What a shame! “But I run faster and longer than you kids!”, LOL. Anyway. One day, the teacher told us that we would paddle in a risky river, from a beginner point of view of course. He called it “risky” because of the wide and quick stream. He told us 2 important things : 1- always put your canoe in parallel with the stream in order not to keel over . 2- always paddle faster that the stream to not let the stream control your canoe. No problem sir. I love my life and will obey you. expect that I love to play super hero too. What happened once we were all in the middle of the river ? A F…G idiot member moved from the parallel position and I decided to help him, putting my own canoe perpendicular to the stream. And of course, I keeled over. The canoe was above my head, dragging me along. Because of the suction cup effect, I couldn’t move from under the canoe. And because the stream was so strong and quick, my feet couldn’t press any rock to escape the lethal situation. I was literaly suffocating and after few seconds I said to my self : “Ok Kamel, it’s over. You gonna die, drawn”. I started to stop struggling when suddenly the canoe was removed from my head by the teacher.
As I was witnessing Konca Aykan walking faster than the wind, I could feel her self confidence, her power, I could feel in charge of her destiny. AndI suddenly felt empowered to do the same. Moving faster than the stream of life, the life that a society wants us to accept.
The morality of this story : the only way to move faster than life is to work hard to get skills that will make you very much in demand, skills that will allow you to create your own business. It you think about how technologie has changed our world, it has never been as easy as today to learn a new language, to travel, to meet people, to find ressources, to learn a skill. Don’t waste your time by taking thousands pictures of you that just show to people how insecure you are. Your superficial beauty will fade, not your skill. Your skill and talent is what will help you to build a brighter futur for you and your children. Don’t take the shadow for the light my friend.
Many times in my life, I felt lost. Many times in my life I wondered myself what was the point of living the life I was living. I often thought about committing suicide when I was a teenager. Why ? Because I was innocent and very naif. I thought that having possessions was the key of my happiness. But God, if exists, has a special way to make you discover the true meaning of life, the true meaning of your own existence. I was not born to possess. I was born to create, to emulate, to help, to learn, to share. Once I realized that, my life changed. I started to discover a new kind of happiness : the happiness that comes from learning, from having skills, from being creative, from helping others, the happiness that comes from being surrounded by happy people with positive energies and big heart. I have no words strong enough to thank the many people like Shiona Turini, Nicolas Chapoteau for the numerous smiles their offered me during all these years. These smiles were not just smiles to me, they were like messages from God, if exists, telling me no not surrender, to not let it down, to keep focusing on telling stories rather than taking pictures of clothes and accessories. It would have been so easy for me to take just one amazing pictures and then move to take another picture. But life is too beautiful. This New York fashion week was my last fashion week ever. I will keep in my heart great memories, memories that are helping me to take Style and the City in the next level. And you’ll live it.
Now you know why it took me so long to post a new article. My heart has its own langage and I am still learning how to translate its thoughts to you. Have a great day my friends and find us on Instagram too. Click the picture bellow.
