Paris Fashion Week. 3 pm. Outside DIOR fashion show
Hundreds of photographers ordered by their fashion magazines or websites to take in pictures the outfits of the women from fashion attending fashion week. I remember when I started street style photography that I was amazed by the beautiful outfits women were wearing. remember that I am not coming from the fashion field, but the comedy and TV entertainment. But fashion week after fashion week, I saw the number of photographers increasing dramatically. As a consequence : a fierce competition and very bad behaviours from many of them that turned women from fashion into coat racks, into object. I was sad cause when I created Style and the City it was to humanize fashion, to show how women are naturally beautiful. That means taking their pictures as they walk, as they talk, as they laugh with friends. But if there is hundreds photographers that keep stopping women again and again, how are they supposed to walk and chat with their friends peacefully , how can they enjoy attending the fashion week if they are constantly stalked.
The more I saw them trying to flee the photographers, the more difficult it was for me to take great pictures. And then I realized somehing that change my way of taking pictures, of revealing women’s natural beauty : “the moment of grace”.
Have you experienced this situation : you talk to someone, and then this person moves in a certain way that make him, her irrestible ? Her, his move showed grace. It is what I call “The moment of grace”. And we all have our moment of grace in our daily routine.
Hundreds of photographers stalking Caroline Sieber to take her dress and even her pocket in picture. It could have been another person, they don’t care at all : they see s atylish woman, that’s all. Not me. As a former TV director, specialized in making of, the first thing I do is to understand the scene in order to frame my picture correctly. Doing that helps me to understand what’s gonna happen. I know who are the characters, I know the interaction between each other, I know what is their next move. And I know that Corline Sieber’s moment of grace has not arrived yet. I fled the photographers, walk 20m ahead and saw this moment of grace coming. It will come when Caroline Sieber will find peace, will feel relax and happy. And I knew that her call will give her that peace… CLICK.
